November 21 – Praise the Lord!

This psalm of praise is amazing. Read it slowly, and if possible, read it out loud. Don’t just read it, but actually before you start reading, pray and say “Lord, I say these words to you.”

Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord from the heavens!
    Praise him from the skies!
Praise him, all his angels!
Praise him, all the armies of heaven!
Praise him, sun and moon!
Praise him, all you twinkling stars!
Praise him, skies above!
Praise him, vapors high above the clouds!
Let every created thing give praise to the Lord,
for he issued his command, and they came into being.
He set them in place forever and ever.
His decree will never be revoked.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you creatures of the ocean depths,
fire and hail, snow and clouds,[
wind and weather that obey him,
mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all livestock,
    small scurrying animals and birds,
11 kings of the earth and all people,
rulers and judges of the earth,
12 young men and young women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them all praise the name of the Lord.
    For his name is very great;
his glory towers over the earth and heaven!
14 He has made his people strong,
    honoring his faithful ones—
the people of Israel who are close to him.

Praise the Lord!

I hate to admit this, but I don’t praise the Lord that much. I do thank him for many things that occur in my life, but I don’t take the time to just praise him. I head out for a walk every day, and that’s also my prayer time. I often start out by thanking him for this new day, but then I head into asking for his help in the things on my schedule that day. I pray about my family and the situations I know about in our church. I pray for church staff.  See … I spend my time asking for God’s help.

After Pastor Brian’s sermon on God’s Glory Alone, I realized I need to spend more time just praising God. If you could hear my prayers, you might smile. They are certainly not doctrinally intellectual. They are just ways I find God to be amazing – tons of little ways.

And guess what?

I’ve discovered that my faith in God has increased. Instead of worrying about all the things in my life, all the things in my family, all the things in the church … I’ve become more aware of God’s power, his creativity, his love for us, his constant presence, and so much more.

I encourage you to focus on God’s Glory. It might make a radical difference in your life.
