January 3 – Your Workmanship is Marvelous

Psalm 139: 13 – 16  NLT

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

“Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it”

Do you believe that? Do you believe that God made you a wonderful and unique person? If we follow science at all, we will know that we are unique. No one has the same finger print. Stop and think – around the whole world with its billions of people, our governments can take our fingerprints and will know exactly who we are.

I suspect we all look at ourselves and see the flaws. We wish we were taller/shorter; slim and muscular; just different and better in some way. I was always amused with my three daughters. Two had very curly hair; one had straight, slightly wavy hair.  The curly ones spent hours straightening their hair; the other one curled her hair. All complained about their curls or lack of curls. But isn’t that typical of all of us. We look in that mirror, and wish we could change something.

We might even wish we were smarter, more capable of something. We might wish our careers were different. Privately, we are very aware of what we can not do. We might envy other family members or other people we know. They seem to be more successful in various ways than we are.

Yet God knew you completely “even before you were born”.You have a significant part in his plans for our world. He has placed you in that particular place where you can show his love and kindness to those around you. You might be the company president; you might be the company janitor. You might enjoy doing math; you might enjoy various arts. You might be healthy and strong; you might have health issues that keep you bed-ridden a lot. Whoever you are; whereever you are – God knows. You are unique and complex, and God can use you in special ways.

God repeats his love for you and his ability to use you in the New Testament.

Ephesians 3: 14 – 21  NLT

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”
