The Pastoral Care Counselor will commit to authority of scripture, personal accountability and client confidentiality. The role’s aim is to provide hope and a life-giving service through personal conversation, and biblical guidance. The Pastoral Care Counselor will report to the Adult/Care Ministries Pastor.

The Gospel of Christ is the foundation for the work of biblical consultation. We are convinced that counselling centered on Christ and anchored in Scripture offers the only lasting hope and loving assistance that leads to His redeeming grace. Real change is the result of the work of the Holy Spirit within a person’s heart. This work often involves the intervention of others, such as a pastor, mentor or counselor.

Biblical and Spiritual Qualifications

  • Conversion experience and profession of faith (Romans 10:10)
  • Personal life – being above reproach, temperate, self-controlled, faithful in marriage, respectable, hospitable, gentle, not quarrelsome, not a recent convert, good reputation, integrity, and loyalty (1 Timothy 3, Timothy 4:12).
  • Servant Leader – a call to serve (2 Timothy 4:5, 1 Peter 5:2-1, Philippians 2:3)
  • Full commitment to Christ, the Church, and to the community of believers (1 Cor. 1:10)

General Responsibilities

  • Provide personal counseling service to those in community, and church body
  • Book client appointments as needed
  • Follow up notes, and preparation of client intake form
  • Ensure confidentiality to the extent legally

Administration

  • Note-taking, client preparation and follow up
  • Booking clients
  • Processing client intake form
  • Processing payment as needed
  • Maintaining consistent records in a secured and locked location.
  • Maintaining a professional and clean office environment 

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • University degree or College Diploma in ministry, mental health or related field
  • Ordained Pastor or working towards ordination
  • Familiarly with church life, and ministry
  • Culturally relevant and sensitive to current issues
  • Ability to empathize
  • Strong listening skills
  • Strong relatability and compassion
  • Excellent encourager, motivator and coach
  • Willing to be a member of Lakeshore St. Andrews Church
