August 3 – What an Amazing Fact!

Proverbs 10: 25   (NLT)

“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away,
but the godly have a lasting foundation.”

What an amazing fact!  There sure have been times in my life where I didn’t feel like I was standing on any firm or lasting foundation.  Everything seemed so uncertain and scary.

I remember as a young first-time mom standing at my daughter’s bedroom door while she screamed forever – or it seemed like forever to me.  What could I do for a colicky baby?  No rocking or soothing words, no body massages or manipulation, nothing seemed to calm her down.

I remember as a mom of two preschoolers whose husband worked way too many hours a week, wondering if life would ever be fun again.  Once I was independent and involved in so many activities; now I couldn’t even go to the bathroom alone.

I remember handing over the keys to our car to a 16 year old daughter who couldn’t wait to drive away on her own.  Would life ever be the same now that I couldn’t control things as much?

I remember the day we were told that my husband had a liver disease that required a transplant.  We had two daughters in high school and one in elementary school.  As I saw his health going downhill, I wondered how I would survive back in the workplace after many years as an at-home mom – something I needed to do so our girls would have an income if their dad didn’t survive.

I remember the day the doctors told Wayne he had two weeks to live, and the drive home from London to tell our girls that horrible news.  I’m so thankful that God decided that the doctors were wrong. But you know what?

In each of those situations, I remember one more thing.  In my scared and anxious state, I turned to my Heavenly Father for comfort and assurance that He had things in control, and that I could stand firm because He was the one holding me up – my foundation.

“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away,
but the godly have a lasting foundation.”

What an amazing fact!

Our song for today is Firm Foundation by Selah.
